COWART

I am originally from Statesboro, Georgia, and moved around quite a bit during my childhood before settling in Gastonia in the 8th grade. I graduated from Ashbrook High School and went on to join the Army National Guard, serving as a forward observer for field artillery. At the same time, I enrolled at Appalachian State University.  In 2004–2005, I was deployed to Iraq as part of my military service—an experience that deeply shaped my perspective and sense of purpose.

I graduated from Appalachian with a degree in Physics and continued my academic journey in the Ph.D. program in Nanoscale Science at UNC Charlotte. During that time, I discovered a passion for teaching, which inspired me to change career paths and pursue education.

I began my teaching career at Bunker Hill High School in Catawba County. After one year, I moved to Charlotte and joined Mallard Creek High School, where I taught math and science—though my favorite course to teach was Honors and AP Physics.

After four years in the classroom, I was encouraged to pursue school leadership. I enrolled at Gardner-Webb University, where I earned both my Master’s in School Administration and an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Executive Leadership. I then transitioned into administration, serving as an assistant principal at Mallard Creek High School for five and a half years before moving to Lake Norman High School, where I’ve spent the last three and a half years.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending quality time with my wife and our two children. My oldest son recently graduated from NC State with a degree in Chemical Engineering and began his first job in June. My daughter is a rising junior this year and keeps us just as busy and proud.

I am excited to begin this new chapter at The Brawley School. I look forward to getting to know our students, families, and staff—and embracing all the learning and growth opportunities ahead.
